La mer, qu'on voit danser
The motifs in this pattern were inspired by the billowing triangular shapes of sails on boats. Arranging them in circular formations recalls the movement and whirlpools on the surface of a body of water. The original composition is on blue Unryu paper, with shapes cut out of transluscent vellum drafting film. Transluscency allows for the building of value and depth; because one side of the film is matte and the other glossy, both the depth and the illusion of water surface are intensified as light hits the pattern. Ideal applications: pool or fountain mosaic, architectural divisions such as those made by
3form. (Photo of final composition pending the return of the piece from the Fibers department of the Savannah College of Art and Design.)
