Danse des Mirlitons
Flowers blooming around Savannah, Georgia were the inspiration for this pattern. It explores light and texture relationships through the separation of the values found in a flower from its hue, the dimensional execution achieved by cutting and embroidery, and the use of transluscent material as a backing. The original composition uses Annigoni paper as a substrate, with layers of lavender tissue paper backing painted with watercolor, India ink for the surface coloration, and thick, ochre thread for the French knot embroidery.
